Bringing God to the Table: A Thanksgiving Heart That Lasts All Season

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is here again—can you believe it? One minute we’re sweating in August, saying things like “This year I’m going to be SO prepared,” and the next minute we’re standing in the grocery aisle holding a frozen turkey like it’s a newborn baby, wondering how long it takes to thaw and if Google will judge us for searching it… again.

But ready or not, here comes the beautiful swirl of gathering, cooking, laughing, and loving.

Thanksgiving is a beautiful holiday because it brings out something tender and true in us. It’s the one of the two days a year where the world seems to collectively pause, take a breath, and say, “Okay, let’s remember what actually matters.”

Family. Friends-who-have-become-family. The blessings we sometimes forget to notice. And the loving presence of our Heavenly Father—who is never more than a whisper away.

Pull Up a Chair for God

If we’re honest, sometimes we treat God like the relative who lives in the guest house—close enough to call if we need Him, but not necessarily someone we invite into the middle of the noise. And holidays? Oh, they come with noise.

Kids running through the house like joyful, tiny tornadoes. Pets hoping something—anything—drops to the floor. That one relative who wants to tell you how to cook your stuffing (even though they haven’t made a real meal since 1998). The last-minute frantic sweep of the house five minutes before people arrive.

But here’s the beautiful thing: God wants to join us in all of that. Not just during grace, not just when we pray over the food—He wants a seat at the table, a place in the laughter, a corner in the living room, a spot in our hearts as we cook, gather, and enjoy.

He’s not waiting for a quiet, candlelit setting. He’s happy to be right in the middle of the noise, the chaos, the joy, and even the burnt rolls we forgot in the oven.

A Heart of Thanksgiving, Not Just a Day of It

It’s so easy to fall into the pattern of “Thanksgiving Day Gratitude.” For 24 hours we’re professionals at thankfulness: “I’m so grateful for my family.”“I’m thankful for this meal.”“I’m blessed beyond measure.”

And then the day ends…Friday hits…And suddenly we’re complaining about long lines, tangled Christmas lights, and how in the world we already ran out of leftovers.

But what if we carried gratitude past the big day and into the everyday?

What if we didn’t treat Thanksgiving like a once-a-year spiritual gym visit? What if we let it become a habit, a rhythm, a natural overflow?

Scripture tells us:

“Give thanks in ALL circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Not just on the holiday. Not just when the table is full. Even when things are chaotic. Even when life is complicated. Even when the turkey is dry and Aunt Betty is telling stories nobody asked for.

Thankfulness Changes Everything

Thankfulness shifts our hearts. It rewires the way we see our homes, our families, our blessings.

Instead of saying,“I wish I had more,”we start saying,“Lord, thank You for what You’ve already placed in my hands.”

Instead of focusing on what’s missing, we focus on what’s present:God’s love. His provision. His grace. His nearness.

Even having people to cook for, places to clean, groceries to buy—these are blessings, not burdens. Some of the things we complain about today are what someone else is praying for.

Bring Him Into Your Home This Season

As you gather around your table this Thanksgiving—whether your group is big, small, loud, quiet, mismatched, blended, or beautifully imperfect—invite God in.

Invite Him into the conversation. Invite Him into the cooking. Invite Him into the laughter and the jokes. Invite Him even into the moments that don’t go quite according to plan.

And when Thanksgiving is over, don’t show Him to the door like He’s just a holiday guest. Let Him stay.

Let Him walk with you into Christmas. Let Him fill your home with peace through December. Let Him be part of the joy, part of the bustle, part of the planning, part of the quiet nights with twinkle lights glowing. Let Him continue to shape your heart in gratitude long after the pumpkin pie is gone.

A Season That Becomes a Lifestyle

This year, let’s choose to make Thanksgiving more than a holiday. Let’s make it a posture. A perspective. A way of life.

Let’s thank Him for the little things, the big things, the seen things, and the hidden things.

Let’s laugh, enjoy the people around us, savor the meal on our plates, and remember—truly remember—that every good thing comes from the Father who loves us endlessly.

And if your rolls burn, your dog steals a biscuit, or someone spills sweet tea all over your tablecloth… smile. It’s all part of the memory. God is there, too.

From my heart to yours—happy Thanksgiving, sweet friend. May gratitude fill your home, may joy fill your table, and may God fill every moment of your season with His gentle love.

XO, Marie

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Every time I sit down to write a blog post, I picture someone—maybe it’s you—curled up with a blanket and a warm drink, scrolling with hope that something here will speak to your heart, your home, or even just your to-do list.

Honestly, it’s kind of humbling (and amazing!) to think that my little words might make a difference—whether it’s helping you figure out what to cook tonight, giving you a peaceful project for a rainy day, or offering a moment of encouragement when life feels a bit too loud.

I pour my heart into each post hoping it feels like a breath of fresh air. A cozy corner of the internet where you feel understood, uplifted, and maybe even inspired to create something new or just be.

Because really, we’re all just trying to find beauty, calm, and connection in this busy world—and I hope this space helps you do exactly that.

Let the posts
come to you.
