One Planet, One Stewardship: Why cleaning non-tox and Less Waste is a Form of Worship

There’s a peace that comes with a clean home—not just the kind where the pillows are fluffed and the floors are swept, but the kind where you know the air is pure and the footprint you’re leaving is small.
As I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve realized that the way we treat our homes is a direct reflection of how we value the Creator’s handiwork. In Genesis 2:15, we’re told that the Lord took man and put him in the Garden of Eden to "work it and take care of it." We were designed to be stewards, not just consumers.
But let’s be honest: in our modern world, "taking care of it" feels harder than ever. We are surrounded by single-use plastics, hidden chemicals, and a "toss it when you’re done" culture that is catching up to us.
The Reality of Our "One Planet"
We only get one earth, and lately, it’s been carrying a heavy load. Did you know that globally, we produce over 450 million tons of plastic every single year? Even more staggering is that nearly 50% of all plastic produced is single-use—meant to be used for minutes but destined to last for centuries.
When we choose convenience over care, the numbers add up:
The Paper Towel Problem: The average American family uses two rolls of paper towels a week. That’s over 100 rolls a year, contributing to massive deforestation and landfill waste.
The Plastic Crisis: Between 8 and 11 million tons of plastic enter our oceans annually. By 2050, it’s estimated there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by weight.
Hidden Chemicals: Our "clean" smells often come from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that contribute to indoor air pollution, which can be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels.
Choosing a Different Way: Stewardship with Norwex
For me, switching to Norwex wasn't just about a cleaner kitchen; it was about aligning my daily habits with my heart for God’s creation. It’s about un-complicating clean and choosing products that protect my family and the planet simultaneously.
Here is how we are practicing stewardship in our home using some of my favorite finds:
1. Cleaning with Only Water
The EnviroCloth is the heartbeat of a low-waste home. Because of its superior microfiber technology (1/200th the thickness of a human hair!), it removes up to 99% of bacteria from surfaces using just water.
Why it matters: You eliminate the need for toxic sprays and disposable wipes. No more chemical residues for little hands (or paws) to touch.
2. Sustainable Skincare
Stewardship doesn't stop at the kitchen sink. Norwex has moved into high-end, sustainable skincare that actually works.
Refillable Beauty: Many of their products, like the Smoothing Bakuchiol Serum and Hydrating Night Cream, now come with refillable glass packaging. You keep the beautiful bottle and simply swap out the cartridge, drastically reducing plastic waste.
Clean Ingredients: Their line is EWG Verified, meaning it’s free from the "nasty" chemicals often found in traditional beauty products.
3. The Kitchen Revolution
If you want to see an immediate reduction in your trash can, look at your food storage.
Silicone Food Storage: Say goodbye to plastic wrap and sandwich bags. Norwex Silicone Bags and Pan Covers create an airtight seal, keeping food fresh longer and keeping plastic out of the ocean.
Microfiber vs. Paper: Replacing paper towels with Counter Cloths (made from 70% recycled plastic!) is one of the easiest ways to save money and trees.
The Blessing of Less
When we reduce the "noise" of waste in our homes—the overflowing trash bins, the cluttered cabinets of half-used cleaners, the chemical scents—we create space for what matters.
Stewardship is a long-form journey. It’s evergreen. It’s the daily choice to say, "Lord, thank you for this world. I will do my part to keep it beautiful."
If you’re ready to start your own journey toward a non-toxic, low-waste home, you can find all of these essentials at my shop: Norwex with Marie.
A Note on Health: Switching to water-only cleaning isn't just eco-friendly; it's a gift to your family's health. By removing endocrine disruptors and harsh fumes from your environment, you’re creating a "Safe Haven" where your family can truly thrive.
How are you practicing stewardship this week? Please, choose wisely!
Peace,
Marie
