The Words We Speak (to Ourselves + Others) — and Why Heaven Cares

Words

Have you ever caught yourself thinking something about you that you would never, ever say to another human being? “You’re not good enough.” “You can’t do this.” “Everyone else is better.”

I have. Many times.

And if I’m honest, there have been seasons where what others said became louder than what God said about me. Just like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman: “The bad stuff is easier to believe.” When people put you down enough—you start to absorb it like truth.

But friend—that was never the truth.

Words literally rewire your brain (science says so!)

One of the most amazing scientific discoveries in the last 20 years is something called neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change based on repeated thinking.

Basically:

what we think becomes what we believe, and what we believe shapes who we become.

Research shows that repeated thoughts create new neural pathways—like little highways in our brain.

The more we rehearse a thought (“I’m not smart,” “I’m not loved,” “I can’t succeed”) the stronger that pathway becomes.

BUT—here’s the beautiful news—positive, faith-centered thoughts create NEW pathways and old negative ones weaken. Our brains renew themselves when we focus on truth.

Sound familiar? Scripture was saying this long before science ever measured a neuron.

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”—Romans 12:2

What we say to ourselves matters… eternally

When you speak God’s truth over yourself, you’re not just “being positive,” you’re partnering with the way God designed your brain to work.

Try speaking this over yourself today:

“I am chosen.”“I am loved.”“I am forgiven.”“I am God’s workmanship.”“I am never alone.”

That’s not self-help.That’s Scripture.That’s truth.

Our words shape people too

Think of the most encouraging thing anyone ever said to you. Now think of a painful thing someone said that stayed with you.

Doesn’t it amaze you that a few syllables from someone’s mouth could land in your heart like a lifelong tattoo?

God knew what He was saying when He told us:

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue.”—Proverbs 18:21

Yes—actual life. Actual death.

Our words can lift a soul off the floor, or bury it deeper. I’ve been both the one encouraged and the one crushed. Some words from years ago still sting, if I’m honest.

But remember, God speaks a louder story.

The God who speaks good over you

You are handcrafted, deliberate, and loved with a love older than time.

“You are precious in My sight and honored, and I love you.”—Isaiah 43:4

Precious. Honored. Loved.

There’s no insecurity that can drown a God-sized truth.

But here’s the part I’m learning lately…

You don’t have to believe what people said about you. And you don’t have to repeat it to yourself ever again.

People who wound others are usually bleeding too. But Jesus restores what they tried to ruin.

You are not your past labels. You are not your failures. You are not what that person said in a moment of anger or insecurity.

You are what God Himself declares over you.

Words are seeds—sow carefully

Let’s speak life today. To ourselves. To our children. To strangers. To people who hurt us. To people who don’t know God yet.

Imagine if every sentence we said and thought was filtered through:

Does this sound like the Father’s love?

What would our homes feel like? What would our hearts become?

A little challenge this week

Every morning speak ONE scripture truth OUT LOUD about yourself.

Here are a few to start:

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made” – Psalm 139:14

“God rejoices over me with singing” – Zephaniah 3:17

“I am a new creation in Christ” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Say it like you mean it even if you don’t feel it yet. Healing often begins with words.

And remember…

You, precious reader, are more loved than you know, more valued than you’ve been told, and more beautiful to Heaven than you could ever imagine.

God looks at you and delights. Not reluctantly, not conditionally—delights.

May every word you speak today sound more like His.

XO,Marie

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Every time I sit down to write a blog post, I picture someone—maybe it’s you—curled up with a blanket and a warm drink, scrolling with hope that something here will speak to your heart, your home, or even just your to-do list.

Honestly, it’s kind of humbling (and amazing!) to think that my little words might make a difference—whether it’s helping you figure out what to cook tonight, giving you a peaceful project for a rainy day, or offering a moment of encouragement when life feels a bit too loud.

I pour my heart into each post hoping it feels like a breath of fresh air. A cozy corner of the internet where you feel understood, uplifted, and maybe even inspired to create something new or just be.

Because really, we’re all just trying to find beauty, calm, and connection in this busy world—and I hope this space helps you do exactly that.

Let the posts
come to you.
