It is with a heavy heart that we mark the passing of the incredible artist Drew Struzan—an illustrator whose work shaped not only Hollywood advertising but also the way many of us remember our childhood, our cinema-memories, and the magic of film. He died on October 13, 2025, at the age of 78.

Some days, art flows like sunlight—easy, warm, and full of life. Other days, it’s like trying to paint with rainwater. You sit there, brush in hand, staring at the blank page or screen, and wonder where that spark went. I’ve been there more times than I can count. But what I’ve learned is this: creative block isn’t the end of your art. Sometimes, it’s the space God gives you to breathe, listen, and refill your cup.

One of the most beautiful things about watercolor is the way it feels alive. It flows, it surprises, it forces you to let go and lean into its gentle unpredictability. That’s part of why I fell in love with it, and why I cherish the times I’ve had learning from artists who carry on that same spirit—especially Ray Henderson and his son, Bradley Hendershot. I was blessed to take a course with Bradley myself, and watching him demonstrate both his own and his father’s techniques

Color is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. It surrounds us in endless variations—every sunrise, every person, every leaf, every ripple of water reflects His artistry. As artists, we are called to see those colors more deeply and translate them into paint.

There’s a certain magic that comes with waking up each day knowing that your job is to create. To take what’s in your heart, around you, your imagination, and your prayers, and turn it into something that others can see, feel, and hold. Being a full-time artist is both a dream come true and a daily adventure—it’s freedom and challenge woven together with threads of color, faith, and possibility.

The word workmanship in the original Greek is poiēma—which is where we get our word poem. That means you are God’s unique poem, His one-of-a-kind masterpiece. And the cool part? He already wrote the plan for your life before you even got here.
